Visual arts may also be used to describe art produced by digital means. Animation, film, and graphic design are examples. This class is for the advanced visual arts major devoted to the study and practice of the multiple ways in which writing and other forms of visible language have been incorporated into contemporary and traditional artworks, including artists’ books, collaging and poster art, literature and poetry, typographical experiments, and calligraphies. While visual analysis is a fundamental tool of the art historian, art history emphasizes understanding how and why works of art function in their historical context. Throughout the year, students will examine issues such as politics, religion, patronage, gender, function and ethnicity as they relate to the creative works of various cultures and time periods. Visual Arts content is organised into three broad areas that are applied to both artmaking and critical and historical studies.

Visual arts include the traditional fine arts such as drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, and sculpture; media arts including film, graphic communications, animation, and emerging technologies; architectural, environmental, and industrial arts such as urban, interior, product, and landscape design; folk arts; and Well into adulthood, class was something that I tangentially belonged to rather than found myself hindered by.
